Sambar is a South Indian lentil and vegetable stew flavoured with tamarind and a unique spice blend called sambar powder. It is a staple dish in South Indian homes and is also equally popular in many places in Indian sub continent.
Our sambar recipe will have a mix or one or two types of vegetables along with lentils, tamarind, sambar powder.
Sambar goes well with Idli, Vada, Dosa or simply with Rice.

Sambar Powder
For 3-4 servings:
- 80 grams toor dal
- 250 grams chopped vegetables (150 g potato/100 g carrot or vegetable of your choice)
- 1 onion (80g), chopped
- 2 green chillies cut lengthwise
- 1 teaspoon concentrated tamarind paste
- 15 grams jaggery or 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- 800 ml water
- 2 1/4 teaspoon salt ot salt to taste
- 2 tablespoon coriander leaves,chopped
- 3 tablespoon (20 g) Anchan's Sambar Powder
